Mother's Day: Old and New!

A week or two before Mother's day I always start browsing Pinterest for new and exciting crafts for parents.  This year, our mother's day fun was a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new!  I've put together all of my old and new mother's day projects that I've used with my Preschoolers and firsties over the years in my new Mother's Day Mini Pack.

This week we are working on Mother's Day goodies. Next week, we are making gifts for Father's Day since we will not be in school at the end of June. {It was a close one with all of those snow days, but thank goodness, we will be done!}  I like to do mom and dad crafts on back to back weeks to knock it out!

Sadly, I have a precious baby who lost her mom around the second week of school.  So, I know this will be a difficult--to say the least!--week for her.  Breaks.My.Heart.  My amazing school counselor is working with me to make sure the little sweetie is out of the room during our projects, but I like to do pictures for Mother's Day and I didn't want her to miss out on that. So we are doing a more generic picture this year that can be for mom or dad--or even grandparents! Since we are doing Father's Day treats next week, the timing will work just fine!

Wednesday, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and went outside to take the pictures. I took the kids out for an extra recess. {Isn't it amazing how many extra wiggles the kids get around the end of the year?? Yikes!!} While they played, I doodled designed the picture background with sidewalk chalk on our basketball court. Then, I called a few kids at a time a took their pictures.  I've done pictures and frames of the kids in the past, but never done it with sidewalk chalk.  And I think they turned out just PRECIOUS!

After we were all finished, we wrote about why we love our mom or dad...or grandparents on cardstock for durability!  I added the pictures and laminated them. I just love hearing what kids say about their parents. Warms my heart!!

Thursday we wrote about Mom on our fill-in-the-blank page.  These always crack.me.up.  In a really big way!  I also teach Preschool Sunday School at our church and I do the same page with my 3s and 4s {interview style, of course!}  This are just priceless to have!  In my I <3 MOM packet, I have several design versions of this and a blank one that can be copied on scrapbook or bordered paper of your choice!

Yay for mom's that make reading the Bible something meaningful enough for kids to write about!

...and, yes, I teach at a VERY diverse school...*twitching*

We also made this  make-and-take craft for mommy today.

This was my new idea...although not completely my original idea.  It was inspired by this blogger.

We all sat in a circle and passed the bowl of salts around.  I was careful to show them how to measure and dump over the bowl so it didn't spill.  And we made it through without any messes! #OCDteacherishappy

It took a few minutes for all of that, so once we got about a third of the way through the circle we started passing the dropper of oil around.  They were so funny about being so careful about dropping EXACTLY 3 drops of oil in their bag!  It was the cutest thing ever!

Then, we zipped the bag and *meshed* it all together.  I did not want to use the word "shake" for fear of what may have happened!

I made a fold over card to go over the bag and the kids signed the back of the card.  Add a little ribbon and it's an adorable gift for mom!

All of the crafts, masters, instructions and pictures are included in my Mother's Day Packet.

The kids absolutely love making gifts for their parents...and let's face it: it's a much needed break during the start of end of year testing and report cards!

Check in next week for our Father's Day fun!
